Just found today that one book is done and another underway! Haven't listened yet— it's a slow connection (always is, per my experience) and I'm currently still downloading— so I can't vouch for the quality yet. Sed, jen!

ailanto's picture

From the 1950s through the 1970s, Esperanto was used by the US Army for war games, as the language of the "Maneuver Enemy", also known as the "Aggressor". The goal was an added touch of realism, with the enemy speaking a "foreign" language. Spanish was the original candidate for Aggressor's national language, but it was soon superseded by Esperanto: The Maneuver Enemy.

- The opening line in Arika Okrent's article "A Visit to Esperantoland", from The American Scholar 75 no.1 p. 93-108 Winter 2006. The article is a great read about Esperanto culture and history. Available at:

Danny Phantom

This morning my sons were watching "Danny Phantom" on television. The youngest, who has been learning a bit of Esperanto, yelled "Daddy, Daddy, they're talking Esperanto!" and sure enough, they were! Wulf, also known as the "Esperanto beast", is a large ghost wolf who wears green and speaks Esperanto.
