Mike Jones's picture

So far as I know, no mention has yet been made in this forum about the website TATOEBA that gives examples sentences in various languages, including Esperanto, so I just wanted to give the link here to the Esperanto portal:

pdenisowski's picture

Greetings all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I just released an update of ESPDIC, the free Esperanto-English dictionary. In addition to about 2400 new entries (bringing the total to 54,783), there have also been quite a few corrections, revisions, etc. of existing entries.

ESPDIC can be downloaded from

http://www.denisowski.org/Esperanto/ESPDIC/espdic_readme.htm

ESPDIC is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License, meaning that that anyone can freely use, transmit, or modify ESPDIC for any purpose, including commercial purposes, as long as the source is properly attributed.

As always, comments, questions, suggestions, and (especially) contributions are warmly welcome.

Amike,

Paul

They could be talking about Esperanto - again!

Mike Jones's picture

I have noted before in this forum that oftentimes what someone says about a given topic applies equally to Esperanto. Here is the link to my previous post on this:

http://www.esperanto-usa.org/en/content/they-could-be-talking-about-espe...

I've just run across another example of this that I want to share with you. In the following quotation, I have changed the topic to "Esperanto", but have otherwise changed nothing:

"The neglect of Esperanto by those professionally trained to investigate it, and its disdainful dismissal when it is considered at all, are among the strangest phenomena of American scholarship."

OK, now, without looking at the answer below, can you guess what the actual topic was, and, for extra credit, who said it? I'll give you one minute.

OK, time's up.
It was a tough one, right?

Zamenhof 's essay on the web

Mike Jones's picture

Back in the 70's, when I was learning Esperanto, one of the things I cut my teeth on was Zamenhof essay "Esenco kaj Estonteco de la Ideo de Lingvo Internacia". Just now I happened across the full text of it on the web. Here is the link:

E-speranto, anyone?

Mike Jones's picture

Awwright, now, without looking, I want you to raise your hand if you hadn't ever heard of E-speranto. (Yes, the hyphen is part of it.) Whew! It's good to see all those hands. I was afraid I was the only one. I only just now ran across an account of it while browsing the web. Here is the description from its website:

***

E-speranto is a computer language for recording multilingual texts. It is intended to function as an upgrade of HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) and it must therefore be intelligible to computers and comprehensible to people.

***

That's just the first two sentences. It's a whole website, with documentation and all. Check it out. The address is:
