Outliers: a case from the Emeryville convention

This is an anecdote I want to record before it completely slips my mind and is lost to history.

On Sunday morning (during the EUSA annual "congress" in Emeryville last month) I took a bus up to Berkeley to go to church. As usual when I ride the bus, I was wearing Esperanto pins and my conventioneer's name tag, and I was probably reading a visibly Esperanto (or at least oddly non-English) book or magazine; possibly a hymnal. In any event, somehow or other I attracted the attention of a fellow passenger, and the word "Esperanto" arose in the conversation that ensued.
