Ĉu Roku parolas Esperanton? Nu...
Recently I joined the ranks of the TV streaming crowd by acquiring a Roku XS, largely out of frustration with substandard cable television programming. I soon discovered a few apps that I now regularly use, including TuneIn — and now I use it to access Muzaiko. Belega.
Now if Esperanto video was as easy to stream on a Roku…
Part of the problem lies in the fact that Roku doesn't offer a YouTube app (perhaps out of Copyright concerns, give the overuse YouTube regularly gets). There is one for Vimeo, which I actually prefer using.
Without wanting to pit fans of one streaming service against another, has anyone else with a Roku thought about how to develop a private channel that can aggregate content in the same way that Esperanto TV has done on the web, but for Roku users?
In the meantime, a little hunting on Vimeo did bring up an album of Esperanto content that can be streamed through your Roku. But it will require a little work on the user's end to get it all together to your liking.
I hope the next version of the Vimeo app for Roku will allow you to save channels and albums. It would be a huge help.

How a Esperanto video app could be made
The way I see it, someone with a little training and understanding of video streaming servers, Copyright issues, and the like could create a private Roku app or channel entirely given over to Esperanto content. I would recommend two conditions be put in place for the creation of such a channel: All of the content would either have to be properly licensed or be fully original (that raises the bar well above what often gets tolerated on YouTube), and the videos would have to be hosted on a separate server (and use codecs that Roku prefers and loves). In other words, whatever channel emerges from the process would have to be properly curated.
