Competitions are for horses, not artists.
In the November 2010 issue of UEA’s Esperanto magazine, there is (yet another) complaint on the part of admin about the poor quality of the pieces submitted for the literary contests:
---------
La gvida artkonkurso, la Belartaj Konkursoj de UEA
Floranta kaj indiĝena Esperanta dramaturgio: jen bela revo. Tamen koŝmaron prezentas la realo, almenaŭ spegulata en la rezultoj de la branĉo “teatraĵo” de la belartaj konkursoj de UEA.
p.223
Paul Gubbins
----------
I have always felt uneasy with the concept, but have kept silent for fear of seeming a stick-in-the-mud, or a wet blanket. But I have run across a great quote on the web that states clearly how I feel about it, and I surmise that a great number of other people must feel the same. Here it is (again):
Competitions are for horses, not artists.
