Professional Color Picture Brochure

sbelant's picture

I keep revising this brochure. Please give me feedback on this proposed generic English-language brochure https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-gHu0Hogb87WkhnZ2dka2JrSGM. Thanks for the comments so far. The very latest changes 8/5/2012 I have removed the correlatives, chosen more multi-culturally and ethnically divers pics (but unrelated to text), made front easier to read, made all text black except grammar, toned down all text including titles, grammar descriptions, and text, and eliminated claims of number of speakers, leaving that to be implied by definite statistics of Internet traffic and UEA membership. Still lacks a theme and focus group and coherent pics related to text and consistent photographic quality, as well as to overall professionalism of post-upping of brochure, mostly due to lack of experience and just using word processing instead of Pagemaker or similar software.

Gratulojn! La plenilustrita brosxuro estas interesa kaj bela. La vorto "condition" estus "conditional," cxu ne?

Brochure feedback

Lee Miller's picture

Overall the brochure looks attractive, but I have some questions/comments:

Who is the target audience, and how do you envision making it available to them?

The brochure seems to be very text-heavy. People are used to bullet points and concise information, and anything that requires effort to read is going to be ignored or discarded. I'd aim to reduce text content by at least 50%.

Visually the brochure doesn't seem connected from one panel to the next. The shifting font sizes, styles and backgrounds are too much. What is the significance of the flower and shell motifs? What is the importance of drinking water from a bottle labeled "Esperanto"? The visual coherence needs to be polished.

Some of the phrases seem a little puzzling to me. "Talk up the world". "It's reached high art". Are average readers going to have any idea what "the Iberian school" means? Do most people know what "affixes" are? (And do you really want to introduce correlatives, which are often one of the most troublesome aspects of the language for new learners?)

I guess my point is that you need to specify what your goal is, then target the brochure to that goal. As it stands, it seems kind of "all over the place" to me, and as a result might not satisfy any goal at all.
