A Supplement to the Biercian Dictionary
Introduction
Around the year 1900, Ambrose Bierce published his famous book:
The Devil’s Dictionary
This is the “Biercian Dictionary” referred to in the title of this document, for which a number of additions are proposed, as follows.
-----------------
community college: a post secondary institution of learning in which anything elite is looked down upon.
first edition: a neatly presented draft.
junior college: 1) where junior goes, because no other place will take him; 2) an institution of higher learning in which the senior students are taught by junior scholars.
political correctness: passionate concern over superficial customs in order to postpone indefinitely having to learn Esperanto.
renovation: what long neglected maintenance is called when it is finally performed.
that: what obtains when “much more than that” is asserted.
unstable regime: one which would act contrary to our interests were it not for the presence of our puppet regime.
