UK 2010

UK in Cuba

Licenses are available for Americans to travel to Cuba under some conditions. See the U.S. State Department's Web site at:

http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1097.html

Carefully read ALL the information there if you plan to go. Further down the page, you'll find information on available licenses. American Esperantists might qualify for a "general license" under the following clause, for example:

"Members of international organizations of which the United States is also a member (traveling on official business)."

Or maybe American Esperantists would qualify for one of the specific licenses; for example:

"Activities of Private Foundations or Research or Educational Institutions – Persons traveling to Cuba on behalf of private foundations or research or educational institutes that have an established interest in international relations to collect information related to Cuba for noncommercial purposes. Licenses authorizing transactions for multiple trips over an extended period of time are available."

Or maybe one of the other licenses is more appropriate. Perhaps someone at ELNA (sorry, E-USA) could advise on the appropriate type of license to apply for. You might also get in touch with your Congressman's office to inquire further.
