Maybe math is not the universal language.

The IMO (International Math Olympiad) questions have been
posted online recently -- in quite a multitude of languages! You can see 39 separate documents of the problems, which includes several regional variations of the same language (2 in Korean, several in Arabic, Simplified Chinese vs. Traditional Chinese, etc).

These are VERY tricky problems!

The contest is given over a two day period (after several days of welcoming events). Students work on 3 problems for 4.5 hours each day (6 problems in all) and must provide detailed proofs (in their own language). The process for providing the problems in translation -- and grading student papers is itself rather complicated.

[I've never been involved with the IMO, but I have graded a math competition in which most teams used English but a few used Chinese and we needed their team coaches to assist the graders in the translation process -- which was not a perfect solution as they were not totally disinterested in the result.]

It's strange - but not the unpleasant kind of strange -- to imagine an Esperanto version of the questions. And I'd really like to imagine the day when a team is sent from Esperantujo - or would that mean there was only one team at the IMO?
